Many sources of wisdom, knowledge and plain common sense have been distilled, in the MAD seminar, into what, for many people, has proved to be a powerful set of tools and techniques to guide and inform their personal, professional and family lives. A desire to explore further, to expand their abilities and to achieve more of their ambitions, perhaps to reach for a long-held dream: these were some of the things that drew them to participate.
‘Rocket science’ is not the primary focus of the seminar – you can find almost all of the tools and techniques that are presented in the public domain. However, the way these elements are combined, presented, and explored, with an emphasis on inner exploration, is not to be found anywhere else. The way you’ll apply ‘learning from within’ during the three days that you are invited to spend with us has proved, time and again, to enable you to take away all the practical tools to empower you to guide your life in the ways that you choose, in your work, your social life, your relationships, your finances.
This page contains some short summaries, written by people who have worked directly with Kim Coe and the other facilitators now involved at MAD over many years.
They work in many professions and callings, and live all over the world (although many are in the UK).
They were asked to describe some of the ways in which working with Kim, in some cases just the once, in some cases many times over several years, had affected and informed their professional and personal lives.
The short articles below are their own words, describing how working with Kim and her colleagues has enabled them to make a difference. In some cases they attended a single seminar, in others, they have returned to work with Kim a number of times over many years, refreshing and fine-tuning the way that they work, relate, and play!
‘The seminar catalysed in me the life, the courage and the passion to live my ideals; the motivation and freedom to embody what had till then partly just been spiritual knowledge, not spiritual being. I was someone who after a life of exploration ‘knew’ the principles…. there was so much further to go! And still is….’
Karen Webb, Founder of Enneagram Studies UK
‘The seminar experience made a profound contribution to my life. I could write a book about it. On a professional level, the work was decades ahead of its time and many of the skills and tools I learned I still use on a daily basis.
The confidence I gained enabled me to go into any meeting and hold my own with government ministers, diplomats, bankers, captains of industry, and, in the most challenging of circumstances, negotiate a place of listening and understanding for opposing sides to work together to resolve conflict and contentious issues. All under the umbrella of Making A Difference!’
Sarah Franklyn – Director, Natural Capital Services
‘Taking part in the seminar was a defining moment in my life.
Everything I have achieved since is largely as a result of the wisdom, courage and love that I took away from it. It gave me a framework to achieve some incredible things and live a truly satisfying life’
Brian Jopling – Transformation Lead for Health and Social Care Integration
The important learning areas from that period for me are the importance of telling the truth, being open to new ventures and having the courage to move into new areas if I feel it is right.
This may be from a business perspective or in my personal relationships.
Also, the importance of taking responsibility for my life and not blaming others for things happening.
Cathy Jago – Director at Waltons Direct (Marketing and Advertising)
Before the seminar I’d lived in idealistic communities, grown veg, kept goats, helped set up a Montessori school, seen some of the world, but nothing held me. What I still had was a strong belief that people were innately good, that life worked out and it was in this state that I entered with the promise of further enlightenment!
The seminar was a searing experience. I emerged feeling skeletal, pared to the bone, re-born.
One of the things I learned that has proved invaluable over the years: “Don’t buy the form; It’s never the way it looks. Also, that I am not what I think. I can change what I think. I can respond appropriately to circumstances and conditions not just react out of learned and conditioned reflexes and create whole new outcomes.
I fully got that I create meaning; it’s not given to me. Creating stories, myths and searching for meaning is what we humans do. Without stories and meaning we wither and die. For me creating a meaningful life-story is all there is, it’s not optional.
That clarity is not so easy when stepping off a cliff into the unknown. The seminar looked like a big cliff … but turned out to be a runway from which I flew and for which I am forever grateful.
Steve Mallett – Owner at Treffynnon, Luxury Pembrokeshire Holiday Cottage
I am so glad to have participated in the seminar – it was a profound catalyst, the reverberations of which have informed every aspect of my life since. I especially responded to the heart-centred and naturally intelligent teaching.
I learnt so much about myself: that I was a well of energy and unreasonableness, that I was curtailed by fears and restrictions, that it was safe to acknowledge and examine my power; that it was up to me to step into that self-empowerment, to communicate more authentically, to be more awake to the marvellous gifts of this life, to recognise the power of the mind in ‘making things up’, and to engage with people at a more profound level: life was never the same again.
Lilla Duignan – Book Artist
Through the seminar, essentially I suppose I was more me at the end. Truer to my real nature and able to know that and respond to it. The insights were all real as they were experienced fully and the context of the seminar enabled that. I loved the humour, the intelligence and the commitment in delivering the promise made.
In the end, I felt a little like the Zen monk who went to the New York hot dog vendor and said “Make me one with everything”: the seminar delivered it all.
I am a better human being for having done it. I have never lost or forgotten contextual awareness and the seminar gave me a language to share it with others. Timeless masterpieces of truth of course, but the seminar made the listening fertile and I could receive them deeply and profoundly.
Mervyn Frost – Musician
Through the skilful and inspirational leadership of the seminar I gained a greater understanding of myself and other people. It enabled me to see more clearly the things I wanted to achieve in my life.
I look back with gratitude at the many ways the seminar enhanced the quality of my life
Jenny Gent – International Learning and Development Consultant, Lake Associates
At some fundamental level, I am just OK with myself. I did the seminar a good while ago, and this sense has never left me.
Elizabeth M Pritchard – Partner, Zetetic Pioneering Strategies
The seminar I attended allowed me to realise that I am responsible for my life (the good, the bad and the ugly) and that by dropping all fear and focusing on what I want to experience, I become the director and co-creator with Source of my own amazing experience in this holographic world.
Helen Basinger – Hypnotherapist and EFT practitioner, Freedom Healing
The ability to manage my thoughts and feelings is a very powerful tool, I find. When a negative thought emerges it is usually accompanied by a feeling. To change the negative thought process, I become conscious of the feelings associated with it, and that gives me the means to transform it.
In my practice of managing my thoughts and feelings over the years I often have people say how happy I seem to be as a person. The way I am has a positive impact on others, which I think is a good thing. And I feel more consistently happy as a result of this.
Another thing I learned was about ‘active listening’. People love to be listened to: it is transformative. Through providing a listening space for others it allows them to hear themselves, increasing self-awareness and identifying their own answers.
By managing my feelings, and by listening, I am able to make a real difference to those around me.
Kathleen Saunders – Facilitator of group dialogue and one-to-one ‘time to think’ coaching
It’s very hard to distil so many great insights, lessons and game changers for me from the event.
From what I remember of myself prior to my seminar, aged 22, I was very much the spiritual seeker, insightful, hopeful (and dashingly handsome!). However I was also very approval oriented, lacked gravitas, was overly intellectual and had no experience of the power of a compelling purpose.
In truth I wasn’t really going anywhere and I felt a bit lost.
Since the seminar, which really was just the start of my real education, I have had three directorships with FTSE 100 organisations, worked in 19 countries and trained tens of thousands of people in transformation and communication capability.
However I would say the thing that shifted for me the most was the balance between my fear, reticence and desire for approval and my willingness to express courage, feel love and overcome obstacles. I have lived a magical life and take great pride in living by my values.
David Coleman – Managing Director, Good Habits Ltd.
It’s difficult to decide where to begin as there have been so many wonderful life enhancing experiences, moments of sheer joy and relationships that have grown with the years. And I truly believe I’m a much better person as a result of all of this. This all lives on in my children who at an early age are privileged to experience much that I had to wait many years for – they integrate seamlessly with my long tern friends and show a wisdom way beyond their years – I thank a much greater force for that.
So if you’re looking for a life that is an exciting adventure – well you now know where to be.
